Constructive Visualization- Introduction
To begin the Constructive Visualization project I was given The Maypole Song from the film The Wicker Man. We were given the task of generating ideas through a few different methods. I really enjoyed the meditative one as it really put me in the scene that the song is set in. The song itself is quite visual and repetitive, so I came up with the idea of combining different elements from the song, for example putting a baby on a grave. I also came up with the idea to include an ouroboros. This is a symbol of a snake eating itself, the meaning of this is the continuation of life and death eternally, which is what The Maypole Song is about.
After this we were put into pairs and told to draw the other person's written ideas. I really enjoyed this exercise also. Because I was drawing someone else's project I just drew what came to mind from their words, rather than thinking about whether it would be good or not. A recurring theme throughout all the projects is that I put too much pressure on myself to make 'good' art, rather than being free to explore. I think this ends up in me creating worse work, because I don't explore lots of ideas.
