Initial Sketches

I started off by just making some sketches from the first few lines of the poem. I used reference photos to figure out how I wanted to draw the trees and eyes. I decided to just draw eyes rather than a whole human figure sleeping because I thought they would be the best way to symbolise the fact that the person is tired and losing sleep. I need to accentuate the eye bags to make this obvious. I also think layering the eyes over the top of the trees was good communication as it looks like a person is watching the forest burn, which is exactly what is intended in the poem. I also tried to make the eyes look more tired by making them bloodshot, but because this detail is so hard it is not obvious to the audience.
